(19) Towards the Year of Faith: Fatima “Sweet” Roque

[As we move toward the launch of the Year of Faith, we asked our Young Fulltimers to share their faith journey. Read their stories in their own words]

Growing up in a devout Catholic family and being raised by my parents who are part of the community I started to know Christ when I was young, yet I still had no personal relationship with Him. Yes, I had never been inactive in the ministry since I attended my youth camp when I was 13, but I still had a double life. I wore mask in service and I wore another mask in parties. I still felt that I had to do crazy things because of my search for happiness and security, but I just ended up trapped in darkness. I even searched for God in other religion and other youth groups, but ended up more confused and lost.

During that time when I was lost, confused, and in darkness, God met me wherever I was and whatever situation I was in. He saved me from my pitfall. He changed my life and made me experience true happiness and security. Then I knew that there’s no need for me to search for God anywhere, because He has always been there and will never abandon me. Since then I had been trying to follow his ultimate call to strive for holiness. I had been unmasked by His grace, and I will testify, proclaim and shout to the world how great and powerful my God is.
