(39) Towards the Year of Faith: Grant “Cocoi” Javier

[As we move toward the launch of the Year of Faith, we asked our Young Fulltimers to share their faith journey. Read their stories in their own words]

I grew up in a typical Filipino Catholic Family. We went to Mass every Sunday as a family, prayed the rosary daily, observed all the fasts and holidays and even as an altar server for a good number of years aside from the fact that i was raised in a Catholic education from preschool to college. But through it all, I never really understood and appreciated my faith. I knew it was important but I never really valued it till my parents brought me to a youth camp 19 years ago. There I met normal, typical young people who were like me but not really like me. They were enjoying a personal relationship with Jesus which I never had then.

I envied them and wished that I could have what they have. The camp led me to a commitment to Jesus which was very plain and no tear was shed. There were no theatrics but a simple decision. And that decision led me to serve Him and I have never stopped since. I will never stop loving and serving Him. Now my life has greater meaning and I am content and truly happy. I have found the Pearl of Great Price and I will never let him go, and I will never stop sharing Him to others till my body gives out and my hoarse voice is no more.
