A Different Kind of Ghanaian Birthday Celebration

There are special days in our lives that we feel an overwhelming joy in our hearts. For me, it is my birthday, which falls on the 23rd of June.

Two weeks before my birthday, I’ve been thinking about sharing my birthday with the less fortunate people, who because of their health condition have no opportunity to experience love and joy in their hearts. These people are abandoned, and neglected in our society – “the  lepers”.

On the date of my birthday, June 23, with the help of God, family and friends, I was able to put together all the items that our brothers and sisters needed such as food, toiletries, new and used clothes. When I brought the items at the Bonita Leprosy Community, my heart was full of joy. I was so touched. I thought, I would be the one who will bring joy to them but it was the other way around.

I can’t explain what I felt that very moment. This experience is a very fulfilling one and a “special gift to me by my God”. I will always remember the joy and smile of the “lepers” in my heart and in my mind. I will never forget my 21st birthday. It was really a very special one.

I would like to thank God for the grace that He has given me to share my birthday with them and giving me another joyful year. I wish to also thank  all who supported me in gathering the items and going with me to Bonita Leprosy Community, my brother Shakespeare, Tito Efren and Tita Flor Aguirre, Patience, Richard, Lambert and Getor.

God is good all the time!! AMEN.
