FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
ON POPE FRANCIS
OUR THEME FOR 2015
AFFIRMING OUR THEME
March 24, 2015
Pope Francis, in his visit to the Cathedral of the Assumption in Naples and meeting with clergy, religious and permanent deacons of the archdiocese, in effect affirmed the antecedents of our theme for this year. In our thrust of building the Church of the Poor, we look to three things: to our relationship with God (worship), to our relationship with our brethren (loving one another in unity of vision and mission), and to our relationship with the world (the work of evangelization and mission).
Look at Jesus. Look at my brother. Look at the world. Look to the poor.
“I would like to finish with three things”, said the Holy Father, at the end of his meeting in the cathedral. “Firstly, worship: we have lost the meaning of the worship of God, and we need to resume this. Secondly, it is not possible to love Jesus without loving His spouse. Love for the Church. … Thirdly, and this is important: apostolic zeal, which is missionary in nature. The love of the Church will lead you to know this, to come out of yourselves, to go forth and preach Christ’s Revelation, but it will also urge you to come out of yourselves to reach another transcendence, which is worship”.
