FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
BEING A COVENANTED PEOPLE
April 6, 2017
Jesus is true God, and being God, he always was, is and will be. He has no beginning and no end. “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM.” (Jn 8:58). God is all about eternity. And we, if we are with God, will partake of that eternity. We “will never see death” (Jn 8:51b). If we are His people, then we partake of “an everlasting covenant for Israel” (Ps 105:10b).
This is the covenant God had with Abram, who became Abraham. “I will maintain my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout the ages as an everlasting covenant, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.” (Gn 17:7). What is expected by God of us? It is what God told Abraham: “For your part, you and your descendants after you must keep my covenant throughout the ages.” (Gn 17:9).
This is where the problem comes. We have been unfaithful. God of course is always faithful. “He remembers forever his covenant, the word he commanded for a thousand generations” (Ps 105:8). How wonderful it is to be promised our eternal destiny. And only we can spoil it. We must strive to be faithful and be worthy of an eternal relationship with God. “Seek out the Lord and his might; constantly seek his face.” (Ps 105:4).
