Called to be Missionaries

Called to be Missionaries

Reflection on the book “Fishers of Men”
by Kat Roxas

We are all called to be one with Christ and in this oneness, He calls us to be His missionaries to go and make disciples of all nations. It is a privilege to be called and be commissioned by Christ Himself. Sadly, many of us don’t see this calling as a gift while others see and hear this calling but doesn’t do anything about it. When one is called, he should not just listen but also respond to this call. We are all destined to be missionaries and evangelizers for Christ and He is just waiting for our response.

Our call to be missionaries requires humility. We sometimes don’t hear the call because we are too busy and satisfied with what the world offers. We ignore what we hear because we feel that we are not that special to be called and we are not worthy to do the work for Christ. We do not realize that we are called simply because we are created to be missionaries for Christ. To hear God’s call, we must be humble enough to admit that we are ordinary people created to be with and to glorify Christ.

Our call to be missionaries teaches us to be obedient. Our obedience is our response to God’s call. We are called for a reason and we need to be attentive to know what God wants us to do. We learn how to follow even the most difficult instructions when we say yes to God because this is our destiny. Our obedience will bring not only the people around us to where they are supposed to be but it will also bring us to discovering who and where we are supposed to be. When we finally know what He wants from us, we should be obedient enough to do anything and everything for Him because He will do the same for us.

Our call to be missionaries tells us to take courage. When we decide to respond to God’s call, life will be more challenging. Challenging enough for us to fear and step back from our calling. When we say yes to God, we also say yes to all the difficulties that comes with Him and say no to our fears, insecurities and selfishness. We should stop thinking of what we are to get from this and be firm with our yes and trust in God for He is the one who called us and He will do anything to protect us.

God’s call is a privilege and we are privileged to be able to hear this call. Life will continue to bring challenges in this life we’ve chosen but we should not worry for God will continue to call us and protect us. In responding to God’s call, we need to be attentive and attuned to what God is telling us, be obedient to respond to it and be courageous enough to fight for this calling that we have received.
