CFC-FFL Leads Walk for Life in Chicago

cfcffl walk for lifeThis past Sunday, January 16, 2010, CFC-FFL members were at the forefront of the Walk for Life in downtown Chicago in commemoration of the 38th Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. As some of the pictures show, the CFC-FFL banner carried alternately by members Celso and Salve Alikpala, Rene Garcia and Manny Hermano led the march from the Holy Name Cathedral to the Water Tower courtyard and back to the cathedral. This was the 6th Annual March For Life here in Chicago.

There were only about 20 people who joined in the march, and organizers said that they sort of expected low participation this year because of the Bears playoff game at Soldiers Field and the bone-chilling weather. When the organizers saw the Couples for Christ Pro-Life banner, they said: “Thank God Couples for Christ is here.”

The march started right after the 12:30 mass at the cathedral and paused at the Water Tower courtyard where Joe Scheidler, founder of Pro-Life Action League gave a speech encouraging all to continue in actively supporting the Pro-Life movement. The official photographer of the Archdiocese newspaper, Catholic New World also took pictures possibly for the next issue of the said Chicago publication. The group then processed back to Holy Name still carrying Pro-Life banners and praying the rosary.

Organizers of the Chicago March for Life for the last six years has been the Missionaries of the Holy Innocents, but they have relied in the last 3 to 4 years on CFC-FFL to help lead the march. On the weekend of January 22, a big delegation from the Chicago Archdiocese (about 8 buses) will travel to Washington DC to participate in the main March for Life on Monday, January 24th down the streets of our nation’s capital and leading to the steps of the Supreme Court building. Ray Pingoy, Coordinator of Youth Outreach for the Archdiocese will be one of the leaders of the Chicago Archdiocese delegation. On hand to help him with the big delegation are CFC-FFL fulltimers Anton Quiray and Mary Grace Pingoy. Likewise, in the West Coast there will be a Walk for Life event on Saturday, January 22nd in the downtown area of San Francisco.

At least two buses from SoCal CFC-FFL will travel to San Francisco, whereas all ministries of NorCal will be driving to the city or ride one of several chartered buses to participate in the Walk for Life. The CFC-FFL delegation will be led by the District Servants of NorCal and Socal: Dennis Baluyut and John Cellona, respectively, as well as California Area Coordinator Nonoy Navarro and Southwest Region Coordinator Manny Hermano.
