DESTINED FOR GREATNESS – 2

October 28, 2017

Today’s reading:  Ephesians 2:19-22

Today’s reading tells us who we are supposed to be. And it is amazing.

“So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone. Through him the whole structure is held together and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord; in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” (v.19-22)

Consider the amazing realities of our existence.

  • We are fellow citizens with the holy ones. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God, destined to live eternally with the saints in heaven. We struggle through life but never lose sight of our final destination.
  • We are members of the household of God. God Himself is our Father. We are members of God’s family, each one an intimate component of His divine household.
  • This household is built upon the apostles and prophets. We look on the most important persons in salvation history—those who are sent and those who speak for God—as the foundation for our existence.
  • It has Jesus himself as the capstone. Jesus himself is at the center, the corner stone holding the whole structure together, giving it its strength and endurance.
  • The whole structure is a temple sacred in the Lord, built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. The three Persons of the Trinity—Father, Son, Spirit—dwell in us, making the body holy, truly set apart.

How can we ever be content with the much lesser existence we are now living? How can we not be greatly encouraged to strive for much more of what God intends for us? Know the reality: we are destined for greatness. Allow God who calls us to work this wonder in our lives.
