FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
ON POPE FRANCIS
EVANGELIZATON AND WORK WITH THE POOR
September 8, 2014
Pope Francis spoke to the bishops of Cameroon and referred to the considerable commitment on the part of the local churches in social work, which is recognized and appreciated by the civil authorities and must be the fulcrum of “a fruitful collaboration between the State and the Church, with full respect for her freedom. Commitment to social work is an integral part of evangelisation, as there is an intimate link between evangelisation and human development, which must be expressed and developed in all evangelising work.”
As the Holy Father says, social work is an integral part of evangelization. The two need to go together. And so one of our 7 Core Values is “Living a Preferential Option for the Poor.” In our evangelizing mission, our work with the poor is reflected in Live Full, one of our 4 LCSC pillars. This work is done through our No One in Need (NONe) movement.
