Fishers of Men: An Urgent Call to Proclaim the Good News

Fishers of Men: An Urgent Call to Proclaim the Good News

Reflection on the book “Fishers of Men”
by Jocas Javier

We are all called to take part in this mission and it’s the same call that Jesus did to all the other Apostles and the Church came to be. But we, the Church, are not what we are supposed to be, and that’s the importance of Evangelization. It is our way of going back to who we truly are. We are saved and so we are called to take part in God’s work of saving others, thus we are called to be fishers of men.

The very first thing that Peter did when he was called was to respond. When God calls us, the first step is always to respond. So, they were with Jesus, for approximately 3 years before the Great Commission. During this time a lot of things happened. Things that they have learned in preparation for the great catch they were about to start. And so, as we are called to be evangelizers we need to be prepared as well in all aspects.

Sometimes, we may ask why did God called us. When in fact, we are all called. Sometimes we also doubt ourselves because we are just ordinary persons and we feel like we don’t have much to give. But what we don’t know is that we don’t need to be extraordinary to do something. Because we are with the Master Fisherman, we are ordinary people called to do extraordinary things. How cool is that?

Somewhere along the way, we may fall short for this calling. And every time this happens we just have to look at the Master Fisherman. Have faith in whatever He tells us to do. We may doubt His will sometimes because as humans, it’s difficult to comprehend His will. We just have to trust Him completely for the Master Fisherman never lets His crew down. As long as we are with the Master Fisherman, every little thing is going to be alright.

The call to be fishers of men is a great privilege because it means we are going to work hand in hand with the Master Fisherman. And so, we are drawn closer and closer to Him and finally we are on our journey to be who we truly are. All He needs is our YES when He calls us. To be frank, all that the Master Fisherman needs is our immediate YES!
