Today’s gospel:  Luke 24:35-48

The other day we looked at Peter’s sermon on the day of Pentecost. Jesus had commissioned his disciples before he ascended to heaven, and Peter was the first to carry out that commission. His sermon was the first kerygma.

Today, with the LCSC movement, we carry on with kerygmatic proclamation, which is the missing first step in the wider work of evangelization. The LCSC LCS of five sessions is based on Acts 2, which records Peter’s sermon (the first four sessions) and the birth of and formation within the Church (fifth session). Peter’s sermon in turn is based on Jesus’ commission. Ergo, our LCSC LCS is based on Jesus’ own final instructions.

* Session #1:  Jesus the Messiah

“Thus it is written that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day” (Lk 24:46)

* Session #2:  Called to Witness

“You are witnesses of these things.” (Lk 24:48)

* Session #3:  Repentance and Faith

“hat repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations” (Lk 24:47)

* Session #4:  The Gift of the Holy Spirit

“And behold I am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” (Lk 24:49)

The LCSC LCS is a powerful tool for effective proclamation of the gospel, being based on the testimony of scripture, as it has recorded Jesus’ commission and Peter’s first sermon. It is as if God had left us a blueprint for evangelization. Let us then zealously mount LCSs so that many more Catholics, especially the lapsed ones, may meet Christ, live Christ and share Christ.
