FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
THE NEW EVANGELIZATION
LIVING IN THE END TIMES – 22
November 29, 2015
1 Thessalonians 3:12-4:2
Today’s gospel reading covers the same readings as the past three days. which are about the second coming of Christ. We ended the Church liturgical year yesterday, and we have began a new liturgical year, starting on this first day of Advent. We end, and we begin again. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. As we have looked to his second coming, we now look to his first coming.
The coming of Jesus the Messiah was prophesied by the Old Testament prophets. One was Jeremiah. “The days are coming—oracle of the Lord—when I will fulfill the promise I made in the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days, at that time, I will make a just shoot spring up fro David; he shall do what is right and just in the land.” (Jer 33:14-15). Jesus would come to save his people. “In those days Judah shall be saved and Jerusalem shall dwell safely” (Jer 33:16a).
So now we look forward to the first coming of Jesus. He would be born of a woman; he would go to the cross. Jesus humbled himself and came as a human; Jesus humbled himself and accepted death on a cross. Jesus has won for us our salvation. As we look to the joy of the birth of Jesus, as we look to the glory of the death of Jesus and his resurrection, as we look to his return in glory, we live this life in him. We are in between the two comings. So “strengthen your hearts, to be blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his holy ones. Amen.” (1 Thes 3:13).
