FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
THE NEW EVANGELIZATION
LIVING IN THE END TIMES – 8

Today’s reading: Isaiah 29:17-24
The world today is a far cry from the paradise God created. This is because of sin. But God is about restoration, and His ultimate aim is to bring us back to paradise, to heaven. That is when “Lebanon shall be changed into an orchard, and the orchard be considered a forest!” (v.17b). That is when every wrong thing will be overturned—when “the deaf shall hear” (v.18a) and “the eyes of the blind shall see” (v.18b).
That is when the poor and the oppressed will be raised up to eternal joy. “The lowly shall again find joy in the Lord, the poorest rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.” (v.19). The tyrants who have oppressed them, especially the rich and powerful, shall be no more (v.20a). Those who unjustly deprived others, especially the poor, will be no more (v.21c). Evil, lording it over the world through all this time, will finally be cut off (v.20c).
That is when all those who were bowed down will hold their heads high. Those whose dignity was trampled will be held in honor. Those who are afraid will fear no more. “No longer shall Jacob be ashamed, no longer shall his face grow pale.” (v.22b).
Yes, Lord, we want that. When will it happen? “Surely, in a very little while” (v.17a). Yes, we are already in the end times. But the delay in Jesus’ return is the opportunity given us to return to him, before the final judgment.
The period of restoration is already now and is already underway. We need to prepare ourselves, and the world, for the coming of our Lord. This is basically through the work of evangelization. As we share Christ, more and more people will meet Christ and will live Christ. More and more will return to God and give Him the worship that is His due. “They shall sanctify my name; they shall sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, be in awe of the God of Israel.” (v.13b).
