Loving the Poor

Pat Oconer, Work with the Poor International Coordinator, with the WWP Team during a visit to the Villar Foundation Livelihood Center

We are all called to be evangelizers, to speak and share about the goodness of God in our lives. The Lord gave us the grace to have that courage to share His work: the changes, transformation and renewal that happen to us.

While we all experience the joy of renewal in us and within our families; and the restoration that the Lord has blessed us with – we cannot set aside the fact that there are a lot of people who are not experiencing what we are experiencing. Those who are not experiencing what is due to them, those who are deprived of what the Lord has intended for them. In Acts 2:44-45 it says: “All who believe were together, and they have all things in common.”

Loving the Poor is recognizing the many things God has blessed us with, and in that recognition, we must be able to share and give, and be that blessing to those who are not experiencing the fullness of life both spiritually and materially. We are called to give our time, talent and treasure, to share what we have, so that others may have. We respond with love, recognizing the God who gave that love first.

We are called to be stewards of God’s love and resources. And may in that stewardship we remember the needs of the poor, to be that steward of faith and resources to those who have lost their dignity and forgot the reason for living. May we become a blessing to them, not just by giving our money, but more so by giving our time.

We are evangelized and now called to be evangelizers, may we share that gift of His word to the least of our brethren.
