FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
THE NEW EVANGELIZATION
PETER’S OTHER SERMON – 2
April 19, 2015
Today’s reading: Acts 3:13-19
Peter continues with the same basic message, the kerygma. Again his speech to the Israelites, after he had cured the crippled beggar, is the model for our 5-session LCS.
- Session #1: Jesus the Messiah
“The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus …. the Holy and Righteous One …. the author of life …. God has thus brought to fulfillment what he had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets, that the Messiah would suffer. …. that the Lord may grant you times of refreshment and send you the Messiah already appointed for you, Jesus” (v.13-15a,18,20)
- Session #2: Called to Witness
“of this we are witnesses” (v.15b)
- Session #3: Repentance and Faith
“Repent, therefore. and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away.” (v.19)
In this particular speech as recorded in Acts, Peter does not mention the Holy Spirit (our Session #4), and of course Session #5 is no longer part of Peter’s original speech on the day of Pentecost, but is about the core activities that allowed the Church to grow.
So we see that Peter sticks with the basic gospel message. We should also notice that there is much teaching in the Church today, but this initial proclamation of the gospel is what is lacking.
So we continue mounting our LCSC LCSs. This is what lapsed Catholics need to hear, so that they might meet and begin to know Christ, and start living Christ.
