PETER’S OTHER SERMON – 3

May 10, 2015

Today’s reading:  Acts 10:25-48

Peter preached to the pilgrims at Pentecost, to the Sanhedrin, to the Israelites, and now to Cornelius and his household. His preaching is the kerygma, the initial proclamation of the gospel. The basic elements remain the same, and these are the elements of our 5-session Life in Christ Seminar (LCS) in LCSC.

  • Session #1:  Jesus the Messiah

“he proclaimed peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all” (v.36b)

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy Spirit and power.” (v.38a)

  • Session #2:  Called to Witness

“We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.” (v.39a).

  • Session #3:  Repentance and Faith

“everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.” (v.43b)

  • Session #4:  The Gift of the Holy Spirit

“While Peter was still speaking these things, the holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word.” (v.44)

We read about how Cornelius was led to invite Peter to speak to them about Jesus. Many people today are already being prepared by God to receive the gospel. “Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to listen to all that you have been commanded by the Lord.” (v.33b). But those who are being sent need to be sensitive and obedient to God’s call (command) for them to go forth and preach.

One very interesting aspect of this episode is that the Holy Spirit came down on Cornelius and his household while Peter was not yet finished preaching. God is impatient to pour the Spirit upon His people!

The harvest is rich and ready. Go and share Christ.
