FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
ON EVANGELIZATION AND MISSION
SALVATION IN JESUS
April 10, 2015
Today’s reading: Acts 4:1-12
Why do we evangelize? Why must we do the work of evangelization? It is all about God’s plan and God’s will.
God’s original intent in creation was to have human beings eternally with Him in paradise. But paradise was lost and so God sent Jesus to redeem us, and enable us once again to enter paradise (heaven). It is Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection that has won for us our salvation.
Now here is the reality: “There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved.” (v.12). Jesus is the only Savior. Only in and through Jesus can we be restored to our destiny to be with God eternally in heaven.
Jesus has saved us. But then again, we need to accept what he has done for us. To be saved we need to call on the name of the Lord (Rom 10:13), that is, accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. For us to be able to do that, we need to believe, after we have heard the gospel, because someone preached it (Rom 10:14). That is why Jesus sends us to preach the gospel.
That is why we evangelize.
