THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL

Today’s gospel: Matthew 9:27-31
Jesus healed two blind men of their blindness (v.28-30a). Then “Jesus warned them sternly, ‘See that no one knows about this.’ But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.” (v.30b-31). They could not contain their joy, and just had to proclaim to one and all what Jesus had done. That is the joy of the gospel (Evangelii Gaudium), a missionary joy.
How about us? We are commissioned to proclaim the gospel to the ends of the earth. Do we? Most Catholics do not. The blind men were told not to but they did. We are told to but we do not.
Through LCSC may we be able to mainstream Catholic lay evangelization. May everyone who will meet Christ and will start to live Christ also share Christ. May those Catholics who remain blind to the call be touched by Jesus and see. “And their eyes were opened” (v.30a).
