OUR THEME FOR 2013
THE YEAR OF FAITH
October 11, 2012
Today’s reading: Galatians 3:1-5
The Year of Faith, as proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI, starts today. The Year of Faith also jumpstarts the era of the New Evangelization. This year we have taken faith as our theme, which is “Faith Works Wonders!” taken from John 14:12. Our battle cry is BE.LI.EV.E!
The work of evangelization is all about faith. It starts with faith, its message is faith, it moves forward in faith. With faith, God “supplies the Spirit to you and works mighty deeds among you” (Gal 3:5). We receive the Holy Spirit, who is given in order that we might be empowered to be witnesses to Christ to the ends of the earth, and we are enabled to work mighty deeds, even greater works than Jesus did. To effectively proclaim Christ to a darkened world, faith is necessary.
How has faith worked in our lives?
* With faith, “before (our) eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified” (Gal 3:1b). Our faith rests in Jesus who was crucified in order to win for us our salvation. Our faith is all about Jesus, the cross, and the salvation won by Jesus on the cross.
* Then we came into faith “in what (we) heard” (Gal 3:2c). The faith was proclaimed. We heard this good news, and by the grace of God we accepted. We were evangelized. We met Christ. We became a friend of Jesus.
* With faith we have begun a life “with the Spirit” (Gal 3:3b). The very Spirit of Jesus has come into our lives, and we are led by the Spirit. We began to live Christ. We lived the way of Jesus.
* With faith we “experience so many things” (Gal 4a). We experienced many blessings, and profound transformation of our lives. We even participated in the work of evangelization. We began to share Christ. We evangelized in the name of Jesus.
With faith, we BE.LI.EV.E! This is what faith is all about.
Let us never lose sight of what faith is. We should not be bewitched by false gospels. We must not rely on works of the law. We are not to be stupid in not recognizing the great gift of faith given us by God. We are to be careful that we do not end with the flesh. God’s work in and through us must never end in vain.
