There is a Miracle! (A National Youth Day 2017 Reflection)

I am privileged to be part of this year’s National Youth Day (NYD) that was held in Zamboanga City last November 6-10, 2017. It was my first time to attend the NYD and the experiences that I had are all new for me. The animation every day that makes my body sweat a lot even if it’s early in the morning until afternoon. It was also my first time to be hosted by a Filipino foster family that is not part of the CFC-FFL community that I belong in. All of us are excited and quite afraid during the NYD because the host of the event was very challenging due to martial law declared in Mindanao.

This year’s NYD was a big question for me if I will join or not. I attended three World Youth Day already and I’m thinking that the experiences will be just the same. But as I pray and asked God for the answer to my question, He told me to still go and join because in that event I will see, hear, and discover the answers in my prayers. But more that that, God told me that I will see His greatness and miracles that He has done and He will do in my life.

Truly God is a faithful God and He hears and answers our prayers. On our first gathering as one NYD delegates in a Coliseum in Zamboanga city, God told me through the Mayor of Zamboanga city that every person in this world is a miracle. It is a great miracle and a great gift from God that we must value. The mayor also said that we must cling on to the promise of God for His promise will not be broken and put into vain. If God has a promise, He will surely fulfill it. We just need to patiently, happily and gratefully wait for it to unfold in His perfect timing until we say “The Almighty One hast done great things for me, and Holy is His name. (Luke 1:49)”

With all the experiences that I had and all the learnings I got from this year’s NYD, I realized that attending this kind of events has no limits. It’s not about how many times you’ve joined, it’s not about the place who will be hosting, and it’s not about the organization or diocese that we came from. It is all about Jesus. It is all about meeting Him. It is all about knowing and discovering more about the things we need to know about Him and recognizing His greatness and miracles that He has done in our lives.

Lastly, the National Youth Day or any other Church activity is like an iceberg in the ocean. It’s not about the tip of the iceberg that we see from a ship but the bigger part of that iceberg below the sea. It’s not just about the activities that we experienced but it’s all but our personal encounter with the Lord in every animation, prayer, sessions and fellowship with other delegates and locals of Zamboanga City.  It is Jesus who wants us to feel His great love for us and to reminisce and be excited with all the great things and miracles that happened and will happen in our lives.  Jesus is so sweet that He always reaches out for us and do the extra mile for us to feel and experience His great love for us. Truly, nothing can separate us from the love of God. And truly if we cling faithfully and gratefully to His promise, we will see miracles happening right in front of our eyes.
