The Live Pure Movement, a catholic movement of the young that promotes and defends the culture of life, gathered more than 5,000 people to celebrate the gift of chastity and true love last August 18, 2013 at the PhilSports Arena (formerly ULTRA) in Pasig City. This event is the 2nd Live Pure Conference and this year’s conference was entitled ‘HOMECOMING’ with the sub-theme “Come Back Home”.
The event started by 9:00 am with the Holy Rosary. Then, a Holy Mass followed which was presided by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop and incoming CBCP President Most Rev. Socrates “Soc” Villegas, D.D.
During the Mass, Archbishop Soc emphasized and cleared up different things about Catholics and as human beings, specifically about purity. He, likewise, told everyone that as Catholics, they should be very strong and brave.
After celebrating the Holy Mass and during breaks, there were live music, dance performances, and videos shown on screen.
Jepoy Meneses, a young, married, lay missionary, gave the first session entitled “Something More”. In this session, he emphasized that we are “made to love, made free and made to fulfill a destiny.” He further noted that because God’s love is unlimited, complete and unconditional this should give us reason to hope. There were also two sharers who gave testimonies of their faith, hope, and love experiences.
After the session, the attendees had time for lunch and for going around, to check the different booths in the vocation fair. Coinciding with the fair were confession and counseling given by the guest priests and nuns.
Just before the second session, the people were entertained by internationally-known rappers called ‘Highly Blessed,’ Cebu-raised Filipino-Italian pop singer, Luigi D’avola and upcoming band,‘Notsofast.’ Paraluman, a popular Filipino band capped the entertainment portion.
The much awaited screening of the short film, “ILoview,” introduced session two. Last year’s conference kicked off the series of short films by the Live Pure Movement, the first one entitled, “Tadhana.”
The second session was given by EJ Aguila, a Live Pure Movement Full-time Missionary, and was entitled Come Back Home. EJ painted a picture of how the youth of today regard relationships. He told the crowd to avoid Mutual Understanding relationships because love is a commitment. He then led the crowd to meet the One who calls us back home, Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. Fr. Warren Puno, CFC FFL Lucena Family Ministries spiritual director officiated the exposition of the Holy Eucharist.
The Live Pure Conference 2013 was made possible by the following sponsors: BPI Family Saving Bank, Max’s Restaurant, SilverWorks, San Mig Coffee and Century Tuna.
Attendees went home with real smiles on their faces as they were affirmed that there is still hope—that in Christ, they can come back home. // For Live Pure Movement updates, you can visit www.livepuremovement.org or like them on Facebook at Live Pure Movement page and/or follow them on Twitter @iwanttolivepure.
