Our Servant General Frank Padilla has been appointed by Pope Francis to be an Auditor at the upcoming III Extraordinary General Synod of Bishops at the Vatican this October. We are one in praying for the success of the Synod and the participation of our Servant General.
It was announced last October 8th that an Extraordinary session of the Synod of Bishops would meet this year from October 5th to 19th to discuss the “pastoral challenges of the family in the context of evangelization” and a “deeper pastoral care of marriage.”
An Extraordinary General session is held when the Church has to “deal with matters which require a speedy solution.”
There have only been 2 other Extraordinary General sessions. First in 1969 where the focus was on cooperation between the Holy See and the Episcopal Conferences.
And the second in 1985 which was a celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the conclusion of Vatican II. This saw the recommendation to publish the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
This upcoming session deals with “The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization” and it is a blessing that our Servant General has been chosen to take part.
As Auditor, he will not be voting member of the synod, but will be available to give advice and help the participating Bishops of the Synod.
Let us continue to pray for all Bishops and Auditors who will be participating in this very important Synod.
